Overview

IEC 61508:2010 is the foundational state-of-the-art standard on functional safety for safety-critical electrical and electronic systems, including physical AI. The training is provided by SRES functional safety experts and covers practical examples and exercises to support the understanding of key concepts and requirements of the standard. SRES instructors lead this training as active industry practitioners, bringing real-world program experience from the safe deployment of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), and legged and wheeled robots in industrial and home environments to support practical application beyond theoretical compliance.

This certification training covers all topics relevant within the international standard IEC 61508, including all 7 parts. The live training allows for active discussions on the practical application of the standard in Physical AI applications. An optional exam to obtain an Industrial Functional Safety Professional (IFSP, SGS-TÜV Saar) certificate is provided after the last day of training.

Intended Audience

This course is designed for engineers, managers, and other professionals responsible for implementing or overseeing IEC 61508 requirements for safety-critical electrical, electronic, and programmable electronic systems, including Physical AI applications. It is particularly relevant for:

  • Functional safety, systems, hardware, and software engineers developing safety-critical products
  • Engineers working with autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), automated guided vehicles (AGVs), legged or wheeled robots, industrial automation, and other Physical AI systems
  • Engineering managers and technical leads responsible for functional safety programs, development processes, or product delivery
  • Safety managers, quality professionals, and technical specialists responsible for IEC 61508 compliance
  • Professionals who need to understand organizational roles, safety lifecycle activities, safety analyses, and safety requirements under IEC 61508
