Overview

The safety of vehicle functions is a high priority within established automotive development processes. However, applying artificial intelligence to safety-critical functions introduces challenges that cannot be fully addressed through the methods used for classical systems. Established approaches to safety arguments are not directly transferable to AI technologies. SRES instructors lead this training as senior industry practitioners, drawing on SRES’s involvement in international AI safety standardization and experience supporting safety programs across global OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and technology organizations.

This certification training begins with the foundations of artificial intelligence and examines how established automotive standards such as ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 can be supplemented by frameworks and standards for responsible and safe AI, including ISO/PAS 8800, ISO/TS 5083, ISO/IEC 42001, and ISO/IEC TR 5469. An optional exam to obtain the AI-Safety Professional (AISP) certificate from SGS-TÜV Saar is available following the training.

Intended Audience

This course is intended for engineers, managers, and technical leaders involved in developing, evaluating, or overseeing AI-enabled automotive systems. It is particularly relevant for:

  • Functional safety, SOTIF, and AI safety engineers working on AI-enabled vehicle functions
  • Systems, software, data, and machine-learning engineers supporting safety-critical automotive applications
  • Professionals working on automated driving systems (ADS), advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and other AI-enabled vehicle technologies
  • Engineering managers and technical leads responsible for AI safety strategies, development processes, or product delivery
  • Safety managers, assessors, quality professionals, and compliance specialists working with ISO 26262, ISO 21448, or ISO/PAS 8800
  • Automotive OEM, supplier, and technology company personnel seeking an integrated understanding of responsible AI and automotive AI safety
  • Professionals who wish to pursue the optional AI-Safety Professional (AISP) certificate

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the foundational concepts of responsible and safe artificial intelligence in automotive applications
  • Understand how AI introduces safety challenges that differ from those associated with conventionally developed vehicle systems
  • Relate ISO/PAS 8800 to established automotive safety standards, including ISO 26262 and ISO 21448
  • Understand the roles of ISO/IEC 42001, ISO/IEC 23053, ISO/IEC TR 5469, ISO/TS 5083, and other relevant AI safety frameworks
  • Interpret key ISO/PAS 8800 requirements related to AI safety management, assurance arguments, data, AI safety requirements, architecture, verification and validation, safety analysis, and operation
  • Recognize appropriate development and architectural measures for managing risks associated with AI-enabled vehicle functions
  • Understand how confidence in AI development frameworks and software tools can be established and evaluated
