Public, Private, or Customized: Choosing the Right Training Format for Your Team

In functional safety, autonomy safety, and cybersecurity, training isn’t one-size-fits-all. Teams approach learning with different needs, from individuals looking to deepen expertise to organizations aligning entire departments around shared standards. At SRES, we work with both ends of that spectrum, helping teams understand not only what to learn, but how to learn most effectively.

Public Trainings: Shared Learning and Flexible Access

Public courses are ideal for professionals or smaller teams who want to expand their expertise without needing a dedicated group session. These sessions follow a defined curriculum, covering the fundamentals and applied practices of standards such as ISO 26262, ISO/SAE 21434, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), ISO 8800 or ISO/IEC 42001.

They also bring together participants from multiple organizations — creating opportunities for knowledge exchange, diverse discussion, and networking. For many individuals, public sessions provide the quickest path to structured, instructor-led, and certificate-based training that can immediately be applied to ongoing projects.

Private Trainings: Alignment, Efficiency, and Focus

Private trainings make the most sense when a full team — or a significant portion of one — needs the same foundation or refresher. These sessions are delivered directly to your organization, allowing for scheduling flexibility and direct relevance to your systems and processes.

Private courses can also allow for open discussion under NDA — giving teams the space to address internal challenges or development contexts without sharing confidential details externally. Typically, when enough attendees from one team plan to participate, a private training can also be the more cost-effective option.

It ensures that everyone walks away with a consistent understanding of the material, tools, and requirements they’ll be applying together — helping align entire teams around a shared safety culture.

Customized Trainings: Tailored Depth and Integrated Context

For teams working in safety-critical or proprietary development, customized training provides the depth and specificity needed to make learning directly applicable. These sessions go beyond a fixed syllabus — integrating your project examples, tools, or engineering processes directly into the training material itself, all under NDA when required.

This is an area where SRES’s flexibility stands out. Larger providers often operate within rigid course structures, while SRES can adapt quickly — shaping content to a team’s maturity level, standards focus, or upcoming audits. The result is training that directly supports your operational goals while maintaining full compliance with applicable standards.

Choosing the Right Approach

Each format offers value, it simply depends on what your team needs right now. Public trainings are perfect for individuals or small groups building their expertise. Private sessions offer efficiency, confidentiality, and consistency for larger teams. Customized programs take that further, embedding standards-based learning directly into your organization’s projects and priorities.

If you’re deciding which option is right for your team, we’re always happy to help guide that choice. Explore upcoming public courses or send us a message to discuss private or customized training options.
